L'Arche Bognor Regis

About this provider

The primary purpose of L'Arche is to create communities which welcome people with learning disabilities, value them for who they are and enable them to develop their gifts and potential.

L'Arche seeks to provide:
(a) A high standard of professional care, providing safety, support, the chance to take risks, ongoing relationships, and respect for the dignity and equality of people with learning disabilities. We also aim to meet the personal needs of members for growth and development, assisted by the experience of building community with others.

(b) A sense of community
- Amongst and between assistants and people with learning disabilities.
L'Arche emphasises the importance of assistants and people with learning disabilities seeking to live and work together as much as possible, forming mutual relationships rather than as carers and clients.

- Between people in L'Arche and the wider community.
We aim to be integrated into the local town and the wider community, making full use of local resources for the benefit of our members and enabling people in L'Arche to enjoy a wide network of friends and supporters.

(c) The opportunity for spiritual development
L'Arche is an ecumenical Christian Community which welcomes people of all faiths and none. The community has a cycle of events throughout the year which provide a focus for this aspect of our lives together. These include our annual pilgrimage, monthly community gatherings, days of reflection, and occasional retreats and regional and international gatherings and events.
